In normal times, our days are divided and we follow a schedule, with work, school, and family time set aside for specific portions of the day. So, for many families, the loss of this schedule is a struggle and one that can impact our mood in an already-challenging time. In today’s blog, we’re going to look at how sticking to your own routine can help you get through the day!
Start Your Morning Right
For essential employees, such as those in the health and medical field, or the people who keep our stores stocked and work the counters at local businesses and restaurants, getting up and started isn’t as hard because there is still a schedule to follow. For people suddenly stuck home, furloughed or working from home, having no where to be could lead to issues with your sleep schedule. You stay up later, sleep in more, or loose sleep. Try to make a set time that you and your family go to bed, and wake up, each day. When you do wake up, get dressed (in real clothes, you cannot live in sweatpants forever). Steps as simple as this have been shown to improve people’s moods and help motivate! That said, we want to remind everyone that essential employees are risking their health to help protect us and give us a semblance of normal, and we should continue to show gratitude to everyone still clocking in!
Set a Schedule for Work and School
Now that you’re up, a suddenly “free” schedule seems awful hectic. You may only be leaving once a week or so for food and drinks, but at home many people struggle with homeschooling their kids, working from home, or trying to stay sane with absolutely nothing to do. Taking the time to sit down and write out a schedule can be very helpful! Set aside times to help your kids with school work, and offer them lots of breaks. Make a time to work on your own things, and a distinct time for snacks and breakfast/lunch/dinner.
Make Time for Fun
Do you like visiting our shop for a cup of coffee or something from our full breakfast and lunch menu? Make a time each week that you make this trip! Set up a movie night, or a binge night. Make a time to read or work on a hobby, like painting, crocheting, or whatever you find fun and enjoyable. When you go shopping, pick up a few fun treats and set them aside.
