Stay Safe During Your Halloween Adventures

halloween trick or treatHalloween is just a couple days away; have you and your family made any plans? Many people are struggling to decide whether trick-or-treating is a safe option or not. In today’s blog, we want to help by outlining the guidelines the city of Coralville, IA, have put out. We also want to remind everyone that we’ll be open all day on Halloween, if you need a little pick-me-up on the spookiest day of the year!

To Trick-Or-Treat or Not?

The Centers of Disease Control recommends avoiding the usual trick-or-treat habits, as you could expose yourself and others the risk of COVID-19. However, with a few simple alterations to your usual habits, you and your family can enjoy Halloween without putting yourselves at risk!

Health Guidelines

The City of Coralville has created a list of guidelines to help families in our community enjoy their spooky day safely! You find out more by following this link. The hours for trick-or-treating are 5:30pm until 8pm. Basically, you should start by limiting interactions to a pod of close friends, family, and neighbors. Even if you’re wearing a Halloween mask, you should wear an actual mask underneath to protect yourself and others. Avoid going to door-to-door. Instead, wash hands thoroughly and toss candy out to kids, so everyone maintains a good social distance of at least six feet. You could also leave them on a table by the street!

If you have neighbors in the area not following basic precautions, like wearing masks or social distancing, consider skipping their house this year. Only turn on your porch lights if you’re handing out treats, and if you’re going to houses, avoid homes with the lights out. People could be choosing not to participate for health reasons! Finally, wash your hands frequently, and stay home if you feel sick. Other than that, we hope everyone is able to have a spooky and fun holiday!
